KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island scored two first-half goals and made that lead hold up en route to a 2-0 Atlantic 10 win over visiting West Chester Sunday afternoon.
The loss drops the Golden Rams to 3-9 overall on the year and 0-2 in the conference. Rhode Island improves to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the league. West Chester’s losing streak has now reached eight straight.
Despite holding a slight edge in shots, 12-10, West Chester could not finish its opportunities.
Rhode Island’s Jen Cetenich scored in the eighth minute and teammate Lauren Kurr tallied in the 26th minute to lift the host Rams to their first league win of the season.
Goalkeeper Brittney Harding made her first career start in the cage for West Chester and registered four saves.
West Chester’s five-game road swing continues on Friday as the Golden Rams travel to Richmond for a 3 p.m. Atlantic 10 showdown with the Spiders. West Chester will return home on Sunday, Oct. 14 to host St. Louis at 12 p.m.
